Why did it take almost ten years to track down Osama bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and New York City?

There are a couple of reasons for this. One of the large reasons, however, is that Pakistan was essentially hiding him, not informing America that he was there. So more or less, America had to go threw a country to find him, taking a bit of time.
