The development of nuclear weapons on both sides led to an “arms race” and the danger of all-out nuclear war. Out of this race came the policy of Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.)? Explain the meaning of this policy and how it actually deterred nuclear war.

Answer: The M.A.D policy was a military strategy and national security policy that prevented two superpowers to use any nuclear weapons on each other because it would likely cause a full-scale nuclear war that would annihilate both the attacker and defender. After the USSR collapsed, the M.A.D policy stopped as well.

Explanation: Hope this helps.
