You could argue that it is subjective and could mean (almost) anything, but the most common interpretation of this is:

It is easier to live life faking who you are than to have enough courage to be your true self. It’s usually meant in context to social pressure and conformation, typically explaining how it’s easier to run with the crowd than be the one standing out.
