so, let the unknown irrational number be x,

solve:

√x + √5 = 6

√x = 6 - √5

( √x ) ² = ( 6 - √5 )²

x = ( 6 - √5 )( 6 - √5 )

x = 36 -6√5 -6√5 + 5

x = 41 -12√5
