x+y=178
x-y=14
Then you add the two equations together
2x=195
Divide both sides by 2
x= 97.5
Use equation 1 to substitute for x
x+y=178
97.5+y=178
Subtract 97.5 from both sides
Y=80.5
97.5+80.5= 178
One number is 97.5
The other number is 80.5
