SAARC has eight member countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. While the organisation was intended to enhance regional cooperation in South Asia, from its very inception, member countries treated it with suspicion and mistrust. In New Delhi on April 3-4. entry of Afghanistan into SAARC – a historic moment as Afghanistan assumed its rightful place as a valued member of the fraternity.
