The top of a ladder rests at a height of 13 feet against the side of a house. If 1 point

the base of the ladder is 5 feet from the house, what is the length of the
ladder? Round to the nearest tenth.

the Pythagorean Theorem.

A^2 + B^2 = C^2

In this case, A = 13 and B = 5. C = length of ladder.

13^2 + 5 ^2 = c^2

169 + 25 = 194

194 = c^2

square root both sides and you get:

c = 13.9
