3x - 2 = 9
+ 2 + 2
3x = 11
/3 /3
x = 11/3 or 3.67

Let’s check our answer:
3x - 2 = 9
3(11/3) - 2 = 9 (the three’s cancel out)
11 - 2 = 9
9 = 9

This statement is correct, which also makes our answer correct.
