1) as Americans settled westward they felt their culture and technological advancements were more important that native Americans and felt that the natives should adapt to their lifestyle.

2) the government promised them that that natives would have a certain chunk of land that would suit their needs. As time moved on America became less caring and kept shrinking their lands.
