Why is slavery considered the central cause of the civil war?

Answer:

Slavery was very important to the South. It was a major source of wealth for the plantation owners. Slaves were relied on to plant and harvest the tobacco and cotton. Becuse the plantation owners in the South wanted to continue to be wealthy, they were against ending slavery unlike the North. This led to the war.
