One reason was alliances, the European country were all grouping some countries while distancing from the others. Two, militarism, people were building up their militaries and threatening the other countries. Three, imperialism, French and Britain had many territories and Germany wanted to expand as well. Lastly the assassination of Archduke broke the tensions.
