step by ste explanation:
the distance between two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) can be found by:
√(x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2
if you substitute the variables:
√(7 - 1)^2 + (9 - 1)^2 = √ 6^2 +8^2 = √100 = 10
