The area of a trapezoid can be calculated by doing the average of the bases times the height of the trapezoid.

But, if you have an isosceles trapezoid like this one, you can use the length of the longer part of the longer base times the height.

If you use the first formula you would have (51/17+8+51/17+8)/2 * 96/12

From there you can simplify 51/17 to 3 and 96/12 to 8.

(3+8+3+8)/2*8

22/2*8

11*8

88 cm squared

If you use the second formula you would do (8+51/17)*8

Which would be (8+3)*8

11*8

88 cm squared
