That’s true… 4 1/4 - 1 1/2 = 2 3/4. To get that you can change 1 1/2 to 1 2/4, then change both numbers to improper fractions so you only have to subtract the numerators from each other, like 17/4 - 6/4 = 11/4, then 11/4 = 2 3/4
