The Eureka Dunes may be the tallest mountain of sand dunes in North America. Visitors come to hear the strange marvel of singing sand. When sand rushes down the steepest face of a high dune, it sometimes plays a sound like a low bass note. Scientists know the sand must be completely dry, but they do not fully understand how the sound is made.
