There were 70 runners to start a race. In the first half of the race, 2/5 of them dropped out. I’m the second half of the race, 5/7 of the remaining runners dropped out. How many runners finished the race?

2/5 dropped so 3/5 we’re still racing:

70 x 3/5 = 210/5 = 42 were still running.

then 5/7 dropped so 2/7 were running

42 x 2/7 = 84/7 = 12

12 runners finished.
