The cartoon shows a donkey, which represents the democratic party, fighting with an elephant, which represents the republican party. The intense anger shown towards each other represents the way these parties tend to argue with each other, which is vicious. The man asking, "Please... is there no room for civil discourse?", is there to solidify the idea that the argument between the two parties is not a civil, or polite, argument. Because of this image, we can deduce that political parties have caused Americans to view politics as a battle against each other instead of an effort to discuss issues and improve the country.
