p+1 4/3= 4 8/5

Change 1 4/3 and 4 8/5 from mixed fractions to improper fractions. Take the denominator and multiply by the whole number and add the numerator to get the top of your fraction and keep same denominator.

So, 1 4/3 = 7/3 and 4 8/5 = 28/5

Now you have the equation, p+7/3=28/5

Subtract 7/3 from both sides….

p=28/5-7/3, get a common denominator by multiplying 3 top and bottom to 28/5, and multiply 5 top and bottom to 7/3.

p=84/15-35/15

Now we can subtract…

Answer: p=49/15 or 3 4/15
