Would you be hooked on reading this story? Like, is this a good opening line?

I told myself it wouldn’t end like this.
I thought we could get out of this place, could finally be free.
I guess sometimes the world doesn’t work like that.


and then it just cuts to the actual story with a little timeskip

I think i would be intrigued reading a story starting like that. Its a nice sense of dread and suspense, assuming that's what you were aiming for. I'd say its a good way to start.
