The Eastern part of Europe is an area that is known to have very few modern industries. The Eastern part of the country is characterized by unemployment and more poverty.

This is in contrast to their counterparts in the Western parts of Europe. Majority of the poor people are found in their urban areas.

The East side used to have industrialized cities in the past. But now these areas are poorer than the west. The fall of the Soviet Union led to a fall in the economy of these areas.
