the pressure (p) at the bottom of a swimming pool varies directly as the depth (d) of the water. If the pressure is 125 pascal when the water is 2meters deep, find the pressure when it is 4.5 deep

Explanation:

p varies directly with d.

that means there is a constant k, so that

p = kd

to find k we use the one set of numbers we know about

125 = k×2

k = 125/2 = 62.5

now, when the water is 4.5 meters deep :

p = 62.5 × 4.5 = 281.25 pascal
