The pancreas is key for producing insulin to control blood sugar levels. Therefore the nurse should limit the amount of sugar and carbohydrates the patient intakes. They should limit items such as bagels, toast, muffins, jam or syrup as well as certain fruits with a high glycemic index such as pineapple or grapes
