I think Americans today would react kind of nonchalant to Edwards' and Whitfield's sermons. Back then, Puritans were extremely religious and the things Edwards and Whitfield said went along with their beliefs. In today's world, most religious people believe in some type of heaven or nirvana that anyone and everyone can achieve by their actions. So the things Edwards and Whitfield preached don't exactly follow with today's way of thinking so most Americans today would just take Edwards and Whitfield for some madman or lunatic.
