Nick bikes 16 miles in 4 hours while Susan bikes 49 miles in 3 hours. Who travels faster Nick or Susan?

To determine which person travels faster we need to calculate the rate of change of the distance for each person. This is called speed and is calculated by dividing the total distance travelled by the elapsed time. Let's do it for each of them below:

Since the speed at which Susan travels is greater than Nick's, then Susan is the one that is faster.
