the trigonometric function that involves the two sides of the triangle different from the hypotenuse is the tangent.


\tan \theta=(op)/(ad)

replace the information given in the triangle into the definition


\tan (48)=(x)/(5)

clear the equation for x


5\cdot\tan (48)=x

solve the product between the tan and the 5 side


x\cong6.0006\approx6.00
