So at 8pm the temperature is -2 degrees

At 10pm the temperature dropped 3 degrees = (-2 -3)degrees = -5 degrees

At 12am the temperature had dropped 5 degrees = (-2 -3 -5) degrees = -10 degrees

The temperature at 12am is -10 degrees
