To simplify the expression

-8(1+x)+7x

first we have to deal with the parenthesis, so we have that:

-8(1+x)\text{ = -8 -8x}

Then, we add similar terms:

-8-8x+7x\text{ = -8-x}

We can simplify even further if we take out the minus sign:

-8-x\text{ = -(x+8)}
