Step-by-step explanation

We can easily tell that the small triangle (with sides 6 and 8) is similar to the bigger triangle with sides (6+4 and x).

And the ratio of corresponding sides is the same for two similar triangles.

From the image, we can see that

6 is corresponding to (6 + 4)

8 is corresponding to x

So,


\begin{gathered} (6)/(6+4)=(8)/(x) \\ (6)/(10)=(8)/(x) \end{gathered}

We can now cross multiply

6x = (8) (10)

6x = 80

Divide both sides by 6

(6x/6) = (80/6)

x = 13.33 units
