1) We can find the distance between two points in the coordinate plane, by using the distance formula, derived from the Pythagorean Theorem:


\begin{gathered} d\text{ =}\sqrt[]{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y}_1)^2_{} \\ d\text{ =}\sqrt[]{(5-2)^2+(8-4)^2} \\ d=5 \end{gathered}

2) So the distance between those points is 5 units.
