The shark is swiming at (-56 ft) that is 56 ft below sea level.

Then the difference between their elevations is calculated as the absolute value of the difference of those values:

| -14 - (-56)| = | -14 + 56 | = | 56 - 14 | = | 42 | = 42 ft

The difference in elevation is 42 ft.
