Teyonah walks 191 miles due south, then 40 miles due west and finally 287 miles due north. How far

is Teyonah from her starting point?

So the 191 miles south cancels with 191 of the 287 miles north. So Teyonah travels 96 miles north. Then she traces 40 miles west. So Pythagorean theorem says c^2 = a^2 + b^2 so c = square root of (40^2 + 96^2) which equals 104. So she has travelled 104 miles away from her starting point.
