Why didnt the south want to count the slaves

They did count slaves but every 5 slave would be counted as 3 people this was called the 3/5 clause this clause was created because the more slaves they had the more they were taxed

only the southern states had large number of slaves. .counting them as part of the popular would greatly increase the souths political power but it would also mean paying higher taxes. this was a price the southern states were willing to pau
