To find the difference we need to calculate the area of each pizza. The area of a circle is given by:

A\text{ = }\pi\cdot r^2

Calculating the area for each pizza we have:

\begin{gathered} A_1=\pi\cdot((16)/(2))^2 \\ A_1=\pi\cdot(8)^2=64\pi \\ A_2\text{ = }\pi\cdot((12)/(2))^2 \\ A_2\text{ = }\pi\cdot(6)^2\text{ = 36}\pi \end{gathered}

The difference is the subtraction between them:

dA\text{ = 64}\pi-36\pi=28\cdot3.14159\text{ = 87}.96

The difference is 87.96 square inches.
