Given two points on a line,

\begin{gathered} (x_1,y_1) \\ \mleft(x_2,y_2\mright) \end{gathered}

The slope of the line is:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

Since we have points (3, 9) and (4, 5), we have:

m=(5-9)/(4-3)=(-4)/(1)=-4

So, the slope is -4.
