The diagram shows a figure composed of different rectangles. We shall calculate the area by first decomposing the composite figure and then calculating the area of the decomposed parts one after the other.

The rectangles shown make up the figure given figure in the question. The area of each rectangle would now be;

\begin{gathered} Area=l* w \\ (A)\text{Area}=6*9 \\ \text{Area}=54\text{yds}^2 \\ (B)\text{Area}=9*7 \\ \text{Area}=63\text{yds}^2 \\ (C)\text{Area}=12*2 \\ \text{Area}=24\text{yds}^2 \end{gathered}

We now have the area for each section as labeled above.

The area of this figure would now be the addition of A, B and C and that gives us;

\begin{gathered} \text{Area}=54+63+24 \\ \text{Area}=141yd^2 \end{gathered}

ANSWER:

The area of this figure is 141 square yards
