The area of a square checkerboard with side a is given by

A=a^2

So, the total area of three checkerboards will be

3\ast A=3\ast a^2

The total area of three boards is 243 sqare meters. So, we can write

\begin{gathered} 3a^2=243 \\ a^2=(243)/(3) \\ a^2=81 \\ a=9\text{ square meters} \end{gathered}

So, the length of each side of checkerboard is 9 square meters.
