If a hammer for (mass= 0.45kg) is 1.7m high on a shelf , how much potential energy does it have ?

Given,

The mass of the hammer, m=0.45 kg

The height of the shelf, h=1.7 m

The potential energy is given by,


E_P=mgh

Where g is the acceleration due to gravity.

On substituting the known values in the above equation,


E_P=0.45*9.8*1.7=7.5\text{ J}

Therefore the potential energy of the hammer is 7.5 J
