Step-by-step explanation:

The knowledge of expanding is useful when factoring as it enables us check by doing the reverse of factorization. When a term has some common factors, we begin by noting the common factor(s) and then distribute the factor with the terms inside the parenthesis.

The factored form of a quadratic for example is useful for finding the roots and other properties but sometimes it is useful to expand in order to simplify the equation.

For example,

Expanding from factored form uses the distributive property of real numbers which states for real numbers x and y,

c (a + b) = ac + bc.

Another example will be:


\begin{gathered} (x-a)(x+b) \\ Distributing \\ x(x+b)-a(x+b) \\ x^2+bx-ax-ab \end{gathered}
