\begin{gathered} 2x^2-8x-24=(2x\text{ - }12\text{ \rparen\lparen}x+2) \\ =2(x\text{ - }6)(x+2) \end{gathered}

That would be the factorization

Then, the zeros are:

\begin{gathered} x\text{ - }6=0 \\ x=6 \\ \\ x+2=0 \\ x=\text{ -}2 \end{gathered}

So, the value of the smaller zero is -2
