To find the value of 3x+4(y-3) when x=2 and y=-1:

On substitution we get,


\begin{gathered} 3(2)+4\mleft(-1-3\mright)=6+4(-4) \\ =6-16 \\ =-10 \end{gathered}

Hence, the answer is -10.
