Percentages

We have 12 values and we are going to select the numbers that are less than 59:

43, 29, 64,

41, 31, 35,

64, 57, 54,

38, 27, 72

We have that 43, 29, 41, 31, 35, 57, 54, 38, 27 are younger than 59. Then 9 professors are younger than 59

We want to know what is the percentage, x, of 9 out of 12? We want to find x:

9 → x%

12 → 100%

Now that we have the equivalences if we divide each side we will have the same result:

(9)/(12)=(x)/(100)

We multiply by 100 each side of the equation so we can find x:

\begin{gathered} 100\cdot(9)/(12)=100\cdot(x)/(100) \\ 100\cdot(3)/(4)=x \\ 75=x \end{gathered}

Answer: 75% of the professors are younger than 59
