A bucket filled with 40oz of water is poured into an empty bucket at a rate of 8oz per second. How long before both buckets have the same amount of water?

y=8t

where y is the second bucket, 8 is the rate of change and t the time on seconds

the buckets have the same amount when each one has 20oz, so we can replace y=20 and solve t to find the seconds to have the same amount on each bucket


\begin{gathered} 20=8t \\ t=(20)/(8) \\ t=2.5 \end{gathered}

so, the buckets would have the same amount of water when 2.5 seconds have passed
