Tom went to the park on a windy day to fly his kite. He released 40 feet of string at an angle of elevation of 36. How high is his kite in the air?

The triangle formed is a right triangle. Taking 36 degrees as the reference angle,

hypotenuse = 40

opposite side = h

We would find h by applying the sine trigonometric ratio which is expressed as

Sinθ = opposite side/hypotenuse

By substituting the values,

Sin 36 = h/40

By crossmultiplying, we have

h = 40Sin36

h = 23.51

The height of the kite in the air is 23.51 feet
