The function f(s)= -2s+50 is the number of seconds it takes for my dog to eat ALL his dog food, in ounces.

a. How many seconds does it take for all the dog food to be gone? How do you know?

b. How would you change this equation to factor in a larger, hungrier dog (so rate of eating was FASTER)

Part a

For f(s)=0

substitute

0=-2s+50

solve for s

2s=50

s=25 sec

answer part a is 25 seconds

Part b

In this problem, the rate of eating or slope is -2 (negative because is a decreasing function)

so

If the rate of eating was faster

then

is greater than 2 in absolute value

Example

-3 or -4, -2.5, -2.2

f(s)=-2.5s+50
