Trish, this is the solution:

Let's recall the formula for calculating the area of a rectangle:

Area = Width * Length

Area of one planter = 4 1/4 * 1 2/3

Area of one planter = 17/4 * 5/3

Area of one planter = 85/12 inches²

But we have a 4 x 4 array of planters, that is 4² = 16 planters, therefore:

Area of the array = 85/12 * 16

Area of the array = 1,360/12

Area of the array = 113 1/3 inches² (Simplifying)
