At the city museum, child admission is $5.20 and adult admission is $9.20. On Tuesday, twice as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold, for a total salesof $778.80. How many child tickets were sold that day?

The amount of sales is the product of the number of tickets sold and the admission price (the price of each ticket).

Let the number of child tickets sold be x.

Since twice as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold, it follows that the number of adult tickets sold is 2 times x = 2x.

The amount of sales made on child tickets is the product of the number of child tickets and the price of child tickets:
