A distribution is said to represent a probability distribution if it satisfies these two conditions:

• P(x)≥0, the ,probability of a random variable x cannot be negative,, that is, it must be a number between 0 and 1.

0\leq P(x)\leq1

• The ,sum of all the probabilities in the distribution must equal 1,. That is:

\sum_(i=1)^nP(x_i)=1

If any of these conditions fail in a distribution, it does not represent a probability distribution.
