If we divide a polynomial by a binomial and the remainder is 0, this means that the binomial is a factor of the polinomial, thus we can know a point where the polinomial is equal to zero.

If we have a polinomial P(x) and a binomial (x +a) and

(P(x))/((x+a))=0

then P(a) = 0 by the remainder Theorem, and we can use this info to help us graph the polynomial.
