Another term to split-brain procedure is "corpus calloscotomy" which means a separation between the two brain hemispheres by disrupting the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum is a thick bundle of nerves tha connects both hemispheres. When it is severed impairment in brain processes such as memory, speech and proper communication can arise. Nevertheless, split brain procedure sometimes is the only solution to acute epilepsy prognosis. In these cases, the corpus calloscotomy might alleviate epilepsy attacks.
