Let's make an equation.

April's age is X

Laura's age is 2 more years than half the age of April. So: (1/2x + 2)

Their combined age is 23

\begin{gathered} (x)+((1)/(2)x+2)=23 \\ x+(1)/(2)x=23\text{ - 2} \\ (2x+x)/(2)=21 \\ 3x=21(2) \\ x=(42)/(3) \\ x=14 \end{gathered}

If April's age is X, her age is 14.

And Laura's age is:

((1)/(2)x+2)=(1)/(2)(14)+2=7+2=9

Laura's age is 9 (option C)

Let's verify it. 14 + 9 =23 ; 23=23 (it is correct)
